Ken Gardner initiated Gardner Engineering in August of 1991 when the firm he was employed with was sold to a much larger national firm and the overhead and billing rates increased dramatically, causing a concern to existing clients. Large firms assign projects or tasks to a single coordinating engineer. A smaller firm such as Gardner Engineering (17 employees) can complete the same project with the same professional experience and attention at a lower overhead rate and ultimate cost.

Gardner Engineering utilizes the latest computer design, surveying and drafting technology to create and manage client needs. One computer program permits evaluation of existing and master planned culinary water distribution needs to permit appropriate fire flow and operating pressures now and in the future to keep pace with expanding development. Other programs permit master planning of other utilities through computer applications. Almost all plans are computer generated including reoccurring standard details that are easily adapted to the next project.

Gardner Engineering utilizes aerial photography and Cadd-overlay technology to provide the best available techniques for plan and profile sheet development. Current, low altitude aerial photo contact prints are scanned into our Cadd-overlay software to provide a detailed base map for design purposes. Next, our survey crews identify existing utilities, which are then incorporated into the photography to provide an accurate base map for design purposes. During construction our inspectors photograph critical underground utility and junction details, which are then scanned into the plan and profile sheets and become a permanent as-built record.
